About Us

Peter Mac is one of the world’s leading cancer research, education and treatment centres globally and is Australia’s only public hospital solely dedicated to caring for people affected by cancer. We have over 2,500 staff, including more than 580 laboratory and clinical researchers, all focused on providing better treatments, better care and potential cures for cancer.

Research Education

With strong links to local and international universities and research institutes, our research education program provides a training and support framework for the academic and professional development of our staff and students.

Our extensive research training program facilitates the development of future clinical and science researchers in the following ways:

  • We coordinate programs for postgraduate and honours students from the University of Melbourne (through the Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology), and from all Victorian and national universities.
  • We offer an internship and placement program for local and international university students – both undergraduate and postgraduate.
  • We facilitate education training for clinical research.
  • We offer a secondary school program to provide younger researchers with opportunities to improve their understanding of cancer research and provide hands-on experience in a laboratory setting.
